After Jamila’s husband had died, Jamila initially went on to raise a large sum of money through her own campaigning for the hospital where he had been cared for at the end of his days. This money was gratefully received and was used to purchase the machinery needed for radiotherapy. It was also used to buy the medication needed for chemotherapy which is very expensive. The local papers heard of her efforts and there have been many articles written about her achievements.

Since then Jamila Jennifer Douglas Onyejekwe has become well known in her local area and throughout Ghana for her charity work. She often appears on local radio talking about her projects and the support work that she gives to families that are going through the same experiences that she has done. She now gives advice for a number of health charities in the area and helps to raise money both for the hospital and to provide outreach schemes within the community. She is a brave and exceptional woman and her work should be highly commended. She is certainly and inspiration in her town and for that so many families are truly grateful.
